The
Herdwick is an ancient breed, native to the Lakeland Fells. Many
are “hefted”, which means that they remain naturally
on the fell on which they were born and do not need to be fenced.
Our herd includes some of the off-spring of the herdwicks from
Beatrix Potter’s farm at nearby High Yewdale.
Herdwicks are smaller than modern breeds and their meat is world
famous for being the sweetest and the most tender.
